Perforated sinus of Valsalva is a rare congenital defect; the natural history is not well defined but, if left untreated, the prognosis is poor. It has been shown that conventional surgical repair of perforated sinus of Valsalva carries low morbidity and mortality, but recurrence or the presence of a residual shunt may necessitate a second operation which carries a higher risk.
